Flanfiction is a fanwork, particularly audio, that features in some regard, flan.
The term stems from the Voiceteam 2022 Round 3 challenge:
FLANFICTION [35 points for each player who contributes] - Create something—anything—that in some way is connected to audio fanworks and in some way is connected to flan. NO CLARIFYING QUESTIONS PERMITTED ON THIS CHALLENGE.[1]
It has reached the status of Voiceteam meme, and upon the issuance of challenge of The One That Got Away in Mystery Box 2023, a number of participants who had not been there for the initial flanfiction challenge took up the challenge then.
Approaches taken to the challenge included stories in which characters make or eat flan, filk about flan, reading the recipe in character voices, recording while making flan, creating and then recording fanfic about flan, dessert AUs (in which the characters are desserts), and a podfic of a work named after Flannery O'Connor.
