There are so many stories that blame Ray's difficulty with vocabulary on childhood head injuries that it's almost become fanon. Finding the Words shows what a really traumatic head injury can do, and it's not quite as simple as occasionally stumbling over a word. Ray's recovery is long and rich with h/c and realism and his relationship with Fraser is wonderfully complex and immensely satisfying. A beautiful, touching fic.[1]
LOVE this one, must re-read it in a day or two. Basically, Ray suffers an injury that gives him slight amnesia and a speech disorder. Not only do we get nursing-back-to-health fic, but we later get the Return of Victoria. I need to find more fics about Victoria returning, because that was my only real disappointment with the third and fourth seasons of Due South. What I wouldn't give to have had her return and interact with Ray Kowalski.[2]
