Some Excerpts
I stumbled into fandom in general via Sailor Moon. I didn't interact with anyone in that fandom, I mostly lurked, read fic and drew fanart that I never posted. HP was the first fandom that I actually got involved in. I had just finished watching the first movie and I needed to find out more, so off to Google I went. Nasubionna's fanart was the first fannish thing I encountered and from there I was hooked. Fast-forward 10 years later and I'm still very much into fandom. I may stray from HP every now and then, but I always come back.
For me, the biggest artistic influence was and continues to be fandom itself. I wouldn't be drawing if I wasn't in fandom and surrounded by like-minded and creative individuals who are willing to squee with me and who enable my fannish obsessions. Fandom is also where I draw most of my inspiration from. Usually I get inspired by someone's fic or a passing comment or a graphic. Really, fandom makes my artistic world go 'round.
Fandom has given me inspiration to draw, encouragement to get better, fodder for obsessions and good friends to share them with! All in all, fandom's been great to me and I don't know how the past 10 years of my life would have been like if I wasn't part of it. I probably would have ended up with a slightly higher GPA, but whatever.
