FF7 Experience is a self insert Final Fantasy VII fanfiction by BlackWindKaze that was posted some time prior to October 2005 and taken down some time before 2009.
From a Dark Lord Potter thread on rare fanfiction in 2012:
For those unfamiliar, FF7 Experience was a self insert story written a number of years ago which distinguished itself by being well thought out, well written and largely avoiding Mary Sue pitfalls.
Sadly, the story was discontinued after chapter 16 when the author ceased fanfiction and removed all of his works. That being said the story as is comes in at just under 160k and, in my view, is still a fairly good read for any one who enjoyed the game.[1]
A comment on SpaceBattles's Self Insert Recommendation Thread in 2009 claims that the author took FF7 Experience down while "whining that people were ripping it off."[2] An exchange in 2009 clarifies:
I once read a very decent FF7 self insert. The author was more than willing to let his SI get the crap beaten out of him, and when the SI made bad decisions he suffered consequences for it. He stated he went out of his way to show that a SI fanfic could be made that didn't suck.
Sadly, he took it down from FF.net and discontinued it. Apparently it was a combination of lack of time and people doing knee jerk reactions to seeing a self insert that made him give up on it.[3]
Pretty sure that was Blackwindkaze's fic FF7 Experience. As I've said before, I have a copy. Though I think it's missing some at the end. Of course, I can't be sure.[4]
Now that you mention, I do believe that's the fic. Shame it'll never be finished.[5]

Grant's POV
The barkeep walked over.
"What can I get you two?"
"Gin and OJ, my man." Walter said loudly.
He nodded and looked my way.
"A beer." I tried.
Walter laughed, "He's underage. He'll have a Professor Pepper."
"Is that this worlds knock off of 'Dr. Pepper'?"
"Yeah. Like the name?" Walter smirked.
"No. Rip offs are one of the many little things I hate."
"Tell me something else you hate." Walter asked as he waited for his Gin & juice.
I thought for a moment. "I hate when you have to pee and you're all like 'I have to pee' and then one of your buddies tries to be funny by saying something regarding running water, or they imitate the sound of water..."
I didn't realize it, but my voice was getting louder and louder. "... or they say something like 'Ooohh! Flushing meadows! Hahahaha!'" I even made a stupid laugh with all the venom and sarcasm I could manage. "I mean really, what the fuck do they think they're doing?
I hate when they do that. They aren't being funny... not AT ALL! Ugh..." I finally sighed.
Walter was speechless.
