Eugénie de Danglars is a major character in the Gankutsuou anime, and a minor character in the original Count of Monte Cristo novel.
Most English-language fanworks with Eugénie are based on the original novel, in which she's heavily implied to be a butch lesbian who runs off with her lover, Louise d'Armilly, to escape an arranged marriage. In Gankutsuou, Louise was cut from the final story and Eugénie's only romantic interest is in Albert.
