Best FF Likely to Lead to a Master's Thesis on the Importance of Sig Files in Modern Communication, and the Significance of the Suppression Thereof: Eros Epistolary, by Brighid, aka brighidestone. The Sentinel, Jim/Blair. The first challenge of an epistolary story is to come up with a good reason why the characters are writing to each other, rather than, say, chatting. This is especially difficult, I'm sure you can appreciate, if the two characters live together and in fact spend essentially every moment of their lives together, which, of course, is exactly what Jim and Blair do. Brighid manages to get the guys writing to each other just fine, though. And note her fabulous use of the many options available to the modern epistolary writer, from sticky notes to email to recycled paper. Epistolary stories aren't boring! Epistolary stories are grand! Epistolary stories in the morning! And epistolary stories in the hand! Um. Stopping now. [1]
Summary: In the middle of a fight, Jim kisses Blair, totally freaking him out. Blair leaves, but not before leaving a note that gives Jim hope. Blair continues to process and communicate with Jim via notes and emails.
Reccer's Notes: With that title, how could I resist? This was posted about fifteen years ago at 852 Prospect. Enjoy.[2]
After much waffling about which of many favorite TS stories should be my first rec, I finally decided on one of the first fics I ever read in the fandom. You know how after a few months of being in a fandom, some of the stories you found the very first week lose their shine when you go back weeks or months later and read them again? This one never loses its shine, even after numerous rereads.
Gently humorous and sweet without being at all sappy, it’s about what happens after an argument takes an unexpected detour. As Jim and Blair get used to this new development, their communication (as the title suggests) is done almost entirely by notes and email. Brighid’s writing is lovely and warm, and her Jim and Blair voices are perfectly in character.
Eros Epistolary is TS comfort fic at its finest, guaranteed to put a smile on your face.[3]
Don't read the last two paragraphs.[4]
