the inherent appeal of rudyard/chapman to me is entirely based on the concept of eric pining after rudyard with the intensity of a character from a jane austen novel and rudyard being staunchly and immovably in rivalry mode the entire time. eric will show up to the funn funeral home with flowers and a kindle loaded up with shakespeare quotes and rudyard will slam the door in his face and put another pin in his red string wall of “what fresh hell is chapman about to unleash upon us this week” because this ace mess has no fucking idea what is actually going on.and I should add that if rudyard ever did find out that eric was in fact in love with him and not trying to destroy his business, rudyard’s brain would instantly jump to “ahahaha, HE is in the palm of MY hand now because love has made him weak, I’ve finally won!” because character development?? we don’t know her
