Erestor is an elf dwelling in Rivendell in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Because his appearance in the books is extremely minor, most of the lore and personality associated with him is fanon.
In Canon
Erestor advises against destroying the One Ring during the Council of Elrond, preferring that it be given to Tom Bombadil, but Glorfindel and others persuasively argue that such a measure would only stall the problem and Erestor's advice is ultimately ignored. When Arwen leaves to marry Aragorn, Erestor is among her escort.
In The Return of the Shadow, which contains early drafts by Tolkien edited together by his son, Erestor is said to be one of "three counsellors of Elrond's own household" and a kinsman to Elrond "of the same half-elvish folk known as the children of Lúthien". Though this did not make it into Tolkien's final drafts, many fans still headcanon him as half-elven.

Erestor is generally portrayed as a high-ranking bureaucrat of Elrond's household. He is typically characterized as intelligent, sharp-tongued, strict, hardworking to a fault, and a creature of habit, offering a contrast to fandom Glorfindel. Most depict him as having dark hair which is shoulder-length or longer and brown or green eyes.
Erestor is most frequently shipped with Glorfindel. As of November 2024, Glorestor is the most common ship for either of them, the fifth most common in "The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R.
