Taylor Swift's tour.

Show background and context

Set List

Her set list has stayed relatively consistent, though sometimes Taylor changes up the songs. After the release of Speak Now(Taylor's Version), she added "Long Live" to the setlist - a song she has previously dedicated to her fans.

This song is about my band, and my producer, and all the people who have helped us build this brick by brick. The fans, the people who I feel that we are all in this together, this song talks about the triumphant moments that we've had in the last two years.

Genius comment referencing Taylor Swift Website (can't find OG source)

It's originally about her band, the Agency, and the experience they had together with her first headlining tour for Fearless. It was inspired by standing backstage at Gillette Stadium hearing the crowd scream for them to come out. ("Tell them how the crowds went wild", etc.) Over the years it's become adopted as more of a general fan song (the secret message in the liner notes was "FOR YOU" and on the Speak Now tour she used to dedicate it to the audience, so that's 100% intentional). And it's applicable to about a million situations outside of Taylor: graduations, weddings, proms, anything that involves people coming together and celebrating the time that they've spent together. I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you!

The Surprise Songs

During the set, Taylor Swift sings two surprise numbers acoustically, one on the guitar and one on the piano. Fans never know what the songs will be, except that they won't be part of the original set list. In 2023, Taylor stated that she wouldn't repeat a song unless it was from Midnights or she made an error; but in 2024 February this rule for herself was removed [1]. Fans maintain a running list of which songs will come out, hoping to predict songs: see The Eras Tour surprise song tracker. In 2024, it became more common for her to play mashups of two songs for her surprise song; another common fan activity is drawing connections between the two songs sang.

"Manifesting" or "Claiming" certain songs to be played is a common activity. Some fans will make promises/bets on what songs will come out: If she plays ... I will .... Once the song is played, the comment section of such videos will often be flooded by comments like "I'm so sorry to tell you this..."

The 22 Hat

Taylor gives a signed hat to a single special fan during the set 22, and often receives from them a friendship bracelet and share a hug or hi-five. There is some speculation over how this fan is chosen, but it seems like it can be from anyone anywhere in the stadium.

The concert film ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ is almost 3 hours. in 2024 Swift will release another extended version.

"The Great War" - tickets

The mania began months before the March kickoff of the Eras Tour. Presale tickets went on sale in November — sending millions of fans into a frenzy and causing Ticketmaster to crash. A class-action lawsuit and a congressional inquiry followed, as did the ire of many Swifties.

Resellers, scams

Ticket scams are everywhere and scalping is rampant.

America

Swift may have been the main event, but fans shelled out for days of related festivities, with plenty of small businesses happy to bask in her afterglow. There were tour-inspired ice cream flavors in Pennsylvania, bonbons in Colorado and lattes in New Hampshire.

In Washington state, Neko Cat Cafe hosted feline-friendly “Taylor listening parties” at its two locations to commemorate the tour’s arrival. The small business made over $3,000 from the event, with ticket sales at its Bellingham location — almost 90 miles north of Seattle — 140 percent higher than on a typical Friday night.

Forty cats, all available for adoption, wore Swift-themed bandanas while humans drank glittery wine and ate “Lover”-themed cookies. Tickets, at $40 a pop, promptly sold out.

Significance of the Eras Tour

As discussed in media

And the fanfare surrounding live concerts goes beyond social media posts and song streaming choices, going by a survey by Icon Printing that found that over half (53 per cent) of Gen Z-ers would purchase and wear their favourite artiste’s merchandise, even if they did not particularly like the product or design. This fandom dedication demonstrates their resolute loyalty, placing it above other purchasing factors and decisions. People are yearning for real-life experiences that evoke feelings of fun, a sense of connection and togetherness, and a community mentality with Swifties gathering to celebrate their idol in the physical realm. While fandoms usually unite in digital spaces, live concerts and performances such as Swift’s Eras tour allow superfans to come together and share in the same experience.

"Errors Tour"

Fans like to joke about the things that go wrong on this tour, calling it or captioning it "errors tour" - this is good natured and not critical.

Errors Tour might also refer to the tour by Taylor Swift impersonator Taylor Sheesh.

Fan Proposals

Swifties have proposed during the concert, particularly during Love Story.

Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone / I keep waiting for you, but you never come/
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think / He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring/

And said, "Marry me, Juliet/ You'll never have to be alone/
I love you and that's all I really know/ I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress/

It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"/

Love story lyrics (proposal lines bolded)

Proposals have also happened to other songs, such as Champagne Problems (though this song is about an unhappy relationship, so its quite rare)

One for the money, two for the show / I never was ready, so I watch you go /
Sometimes you just don't know the answer / 'Til someone's on their knees and asks you
