The End Poem is a work of poetry written by Julian Gough that appears in the end credits of Minecraft. It is considered iconic within the Minecraft fandom and is often quoted.
The Poem
The full poem can be read on the Minecraft Wiki, but the most recognizable part is:
and the universe said I love youand the universe said you have played the game well
and the universe said everything you need is within you
and the universe said you are stronger than you know
and the universe said you are the daylight
and the universe said you are the night
and the universe said the darkness you fight is within you
and the universe said the light you seek is within you
and the universe said you are not alone
and the universe said you are not separate from every other thing
and the universe said you are the universe tasting itself, talking to itself, reading its own code
and the universe said I love you because you are love.
And the game was over and the player woke up from the dream. And the player began a new dream. And the player dreamed again, dreamed better. And the player was the universe. And the player was love.
You are the player.
Wake up.
Copyright
In an article Julian wrote in 2022 titled I wrote a story for a friend, Julian states that he had never sold the copyright of the poem to Mojang or Microsoft and still retained the rights, and that he would now be releasing it into the Public Domain.
Rather than sue the company or fight with my old friend, who founded the company and has since gone off in the deep end, I am dedicating the poem to the public domain. You'll find it at the bottom of this post, along with a Creative Commons Public Domain dedication. Anyone can now play with it. Have fun.
