Reactions and Reviews
1992
I can't put my finger on why I felt let down by this fast moving, sexy, sex-filled story. I enjoyed each page as I read it and was always eager to see what the next page held. The blood and guts part was reasonable, yet when I finished the last sentence and realized all the author had in mind was just getting Kirk and Spock into the same bed, I had a definite feeling of... "Oh, is that all." That's not the most logical reaction, because getting K&S into bed together is 99% of the reason for our stories in the first place. I guess I just assumed it had a co-plot and when none showed up, I was disappointed. But the sex scenes were frequent, and darned interesting. [1]
The story itself was fine. Not completely original, of course, but done without rushing or cutting things short. Where it got to be outstanding was in the long sexual scenes. Waving read thousands of them, I do tend to read lightly through them with the intent of skipping. But while I'll swear there wasn't one thing I haven't read umpty umpteen times before, I found myself deeply involved and reading every word, avidly! It had to have been her presentation. Whatever...I hope we soon see more of fit. [2]
I haven't read all that many Mirror stories and I really did enjoy the long, detailed "history" in this story. The Academy, Pike's Enterprise and various episodes, in Mirror. Many interesting aspects: Mirror pon farr, Scotty's unique protected position, etc. Written very smoothly for including so much. I enjoyed the "voyeurism." the four-way scene when Kirk and Spock first came together. Good, raw sex. However, mirror Kirk and Spock seemed too different after the incident with mainline Kirk and Spock. I hardly recognized them as the Mirror characters. [3]
2011
A nice long A/U tale of Kirk‘s biography in the Empire from Academy to Captain, starting with Kirk‘s almost rape by Finnegan and his cronies, inadvertently interrupted by two Vulcans, to his acquiring the Tantalus device, and thence to the Enterprise, Spock and Captaincy. There are some fine sexual athletics along the way, with aliens and Spock and he gets his revenge on Finnegan and his co-horts. Over 80 pages of fast paced reading with lots of action, and 'action‘ and something you will want to go back to and read again for the sheer hell of it. [4]
