ENTProject was a Yahoo group that had moderated membership and posting, with 574 members at its close. The group was connected to a website .The group was extremely active during its first three years, with over 1000 messages in some months. The group began dying out in 2006 and was only receiving about 20 messages a year after 2009.

The early messages in the group were about coordinating efforts to target Paramount and advertisers with fans' interest in keeping the show on the air. Members were encouraged to make phone calls, send faxes, and raise money for an ad in the Hollywood Reporter. Many early posts also listed advertisers for recent episodes. Tips were also shared on how to compose letters, to stay polite in conversations, and to represent one's self as an individual rather than a member of a group. Members were also cautioned about spreading rumors or potentially non-official information, instead suggesting to use information published in news sources. Among other advice, was "DO NOT use your letters/fax/phone call, etc., as the occasion to plug a favorite actor."

Some international fans also joined the group from England, Spain and Germany.

Later discussions in the group focused on news released about the Kelvin universe films, Trek related articles in the news, discussions about Trek United, and fan films such as Star_Trek:_Phase_II.

Regarding Nielsens and online popularity:

Just wanted to make a clarification, since my "younger generations" statement seems to be a sticking point. I was in fact referring to people in their 30's, 40's and 50's with that term. I said *younger* not young. The simple fact of the matter is there are more 25 year olds online than 65 year olds. Yes, that is changing as the "computer generation" is aging, but even so, MOST people who are online don't actively participate in fandoms and such. It is a very very small percentage of online goers that are involved in things like this.

My point was that the internet is probably not a good place to get feedback for any television show. The people actively posting in a fandom are going to be the ones who are way more involved in that show than 90% of the rest of the fans. If you ask me, looking at the internet fandom too much could hurt the show, it might lead the studio/producers on a red herring chase to appease this vocal minority that doesn't represent the fandom on a whole.

I don't know if many people here spend time at Trekweb.com, but you may find it an interesting place to visit.

It usually has the best early information about upcoming Trek, but it's also the most hostile, negative batch of "fans" I've ever come across! Some mighty flamers there.

Anyway, you may be interested to read the Class IV ion storm that kicked up after I posted a friendly invitation to contribute to the ad.

It should really underscore that half our work is simply to build up a non-hostile fanbase again!

From Trek Today - "A group of fans opposed to the Save Enterprise campaign have formed Kill Enterprise, in the hopes that cancellation might lead to a new, better series."

Unbelievable! And also truly sad -

Ruined my whole weekend, but also makes me determined to do even more!

Facts are facts. It may not be what people want to hear, but it's the truth.

There doesn't even seem to have been a clear plan or strategy worked out re: who would decide when the petition has enough sigs, who would deliver it, how they would get an appointment with Moonves, etc. He's the only one with the programming power, but he isn't going to budge, so there's no point in signing a petition and presenting it to him. The folks are Paramount can only produce a show; they cannot order it to be put back on the program list.

And would we want it back on UPN? They mangled the scheduling and pre-empted ENT in favor of sports. Which network would take it? Paramount isn't selling, and the Sci Fi channel isn't buying anyway. Has anyone considered any of this?

A bazillion signatures on a petition are not going to bring back Enterprise. It just doesn't work that way. It's a business decision, and the person who made it is not going to renege on it now and say he just made a mistake.

About the direct-to-DVD approach: I don't know, but I doubt this would happen either.

It was only the day before yesterday when I found out that Enterprise was going to be canceled. I was deployed 9th. December, 2004 to Kuwait where I stayed for six months. When I returned the show was still on the air without any inclination that it had been canceled. Then after four more months of rigorous time consuming military training I was deployed again to Kuwait and that is where I am currently. Hearing the news of this cancellation has devastated me. I wish that I had at least taken an active part in the Enterprise project. I was going to see if any sponcer would be willing to raise the appropiate funding in some way that might have appealed to a much wider audience. One of my proposal would have a marathon across the states having every mile completed by the runners, myself included, matched by the funding of the sponcer.

I know that there are various reasons for being a fan of Star Trek. Some like Star Trek in a general nature and some like a particular category of Star Trek. I am a loyal fan of Star Trek Enterprise. I have grown very fond of the crew. They have become somewhat of a family to me. Isn't that what a true fan is? Looking forward to see them in particular? My only desire is for them to continue with their show. No other Star Trek show has ever appealed to me in the way Star Trek Enterprise has.
