Yoon Ha Lee is a science fiction and fantasy writer, known for his Machineries of Empire space opera novels. Before going pro, Yoon Ha Lee was vidder and fanfiction writer.
He wrote fics set in the universe of the Legend of the Five Rings, a card and roleplaying game, before going on to write official stories for that property.[1] He was also involved in Buffyverse fandom.
He maintains his profile on Ao3, continues to write fic and is a supporter of transformative fandom. In response to the Ao3 Hugo Award controversy, he tweeted:
I support AO3's fanfic writers, vidders, fanartists, meta writers, etc. calling themselves Hugo winners alongside the coders. The archive would be meaningless without its content.[2]
