Durarara!! (デュラララ!!) is a light novel series that has also been adapted into an ongoing manga series and a 2010 anime series. In 2014, a new anime series was announced. A sequel light novel series, titled Durarara!! SH, is also under production.
Fandom
The plural viewpoints and overlapping plots from canon don't often make it all the way to the fanfiction, as fans are liable to pick a favorite character/pairing/plot from the large cast and run with it. Most of the fanfiction remains interested in the first season of the show, though some is set into the second season or involves plot from the light novels. The variety in characters can lead to a breadth of different fanfiction, however much of the fandom is dedicated to the popular ship Heiwajima Shizuo/Orihara Izaya. A pairing between two characters who despise each other in canon, the ways fans go about making them romantically involved varies, many exploring their history with each other and reinterpreting their passionate emotions for each other in a more sexual light.
There was a resurgence in the fandom around 2016?(can't remember date) when the second season of the anime was airing. It aired in 3 arcs with long pauses between the 3 sections. This brought in a lot of new fans and renewed interest from old fans.
On tumblr fans would release gif sets, screen caps, and screen edits that they created themselves shortly after a new episode aired.
There were many talented fanartists in the Japanese speaking fandom who posted their art on pixiv. Many tumblr blogs would repost these pictures on their own tumblr. It was considered good manners to include a link and proper credit of the artist on the post, but there were people who did not.
There was a group of fanfiction writers on tumblr who once jokingly referred to themselves as the butt poets society, they were writers of good skill who had become friends and enjoyed each other's work. they were itsnotloveifits, majorarabu, thirdname, and fourthname. They wrote fic frequently and interacted a lot on tumblr and posting fic to ao3. Collaborative fics that switched authors each chapter also occurred.

There were fans who were genuinely in love with Izaya and others who thought he was just a troll.
There are fansites imitating the Dollars site from the anime, they are often locked and accessible through the password shown in the anime.[1][2]
