Drawings (Splatoon)

From Fanlore
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In the Splatoon video game series, players have the ability to create black and white drawings in-game. Drawings appear as as graffiti, signs and posters in hub areas and multiplayer stages, and also appear above the heads of the players that created them in hub areas. Drawings were originally implemented in the first Splatoon game via the Nintendo social media application Miiverse, and were fully integrated into the games in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3.

Drawings are a focus of community interest in the Splatoon fandom, with dedicated discussion for creating drawings and working within their limitations, as well as fans creating external programs to transfer images from personal computers to in-game drawings. Drawings also serve as a popular medium for fanart in the fandom, with artists creating fanart both of Splatoon and other media. Fanart for other media is often modified to fit Splatoon's characters and concepts, and may be considered a form of crossovers or fandom fusions. Drawings have also been used in a similar manner to social media and instant messaging services, with memes developing and shared amongst players.
