"Dracus 2" by T'mai and Kuan-yin is an 88 page story which is the only story in SOULMATES 2. In the introduction, there is talk about a third SOULMATES to come, but in conversation with the editor I discovered that this is the final zine for the time being.

Do be aware that I give away a lot of the plot. Kirk is accidentally poisoned by a Romulan poison and without proper medical help will die. They are going to go to Starbase 7 to give him treatment when they get a call that they must go to Dracus 2 because of a problem with the Romulans. The Federation wants to keep Dracus 2 neutral and not slip into Klingon/Romulan hands. Spock resists McCoy's pleas to go to Starbase 7 and heads for Dracus 2. Once there they run into Commander Kang of the Klingon/Romulan Alliance. Also there for the Romulan side is Commander T'San. Conveniently for all concerned, Kirk survives the poison without the special facilities at Starbase 7. Hey, we all know Bones is a great doctor. And he is given orders that he needs to meet with the Klingons and Romulans there at Dracus 2. I'm going to skip the actual plot here and just say that this is really a hurt/comfort story. After Kirk nearly dies of the poison early in the story, he is captured by the Klingons and the Romulans and tortured and nearly dies a second time. Of course, he is rescued. And we during all of this have the usual confusion between Spock and Kirk about being linked and both of them thinking that the other one does not want it. The plot continues to twist and turn. They end up going to Starbase 7 and discover that the Romulans are really out to kill Kirk. The Romulans then capture both Spock and Kirk on Starbase 7. By the way, have I mentioned that there is no explicit sex in this so far? And now both Spock and Kirk are tortured. They want some specific information out of Kirk, and he refuses to give it even to save both their lives. McCoy and Scotty get to save the day this time. Spock and Kirk recover. And finally by page 81 we actually get a little sex. Most of the last nine pages is sex—but nothing really graphic.

If you are into h/c, this is a story you will like. It's well written and reads quickly.
