Doctor Who has a long history, and with it comes a plethora of characters that fans would like to see reappear. This results in a tendancy within the fandom to speculate about every new recurring character, or even minor or secondary character who so much as breathes, to secretly be one of these other characters that may or may not have first appeared 50 years ago.
Characters often speculated to be returning include The Master, The Rani, Omega, River Song, Susan, Rassilon and The Valeyard.
