Distortion is a SFW for-charity fanzine centered on the character Shigaraki Tomura from Boku no Hero Academia. In total, $2,270.04 was donated to the charity Alley Cat Allies at the end of the project[1].
About
The mod team was announced March 19, 2021[2]. Contributor invites were sent out April 10, 2021[3]. The contributor list was announced August 19, 2021[4].
Preorders opened March 4, 2022[5] with a planned end date of April 4, 2022[6], which was later extended to May 4, 2022[7]. The following pricing tiers were offered[8]:
- Dust ($15 USD): PDF
- Ash ($25 USD): Physical Zine
- Ascension ($35 USD): 2 Stickers + Print + Acrylic Charm
- Throne ($45 USD): Physical Zine + PDF + 2 Stickers + Print + Acrylic Charm
A PDF add-on was available for the Ash tier for $10 USD. PDFs remained on sale after the preorder period closed[9].
Three stretch goals were included in the project: a glow in the dark sticker at 50 orders, a polaroid at 100 orders, and an acrylic standee at 150 orders[10]. The Ascension and Throne tiers were eligible for these stretch goals. The zine achieved 100 orders, so the first two stretch goals were unlocked[11].
The zine Twitter account also teamed up with the shigarakiweek Twitter account to host a Shigaraki Week 2021 event from April 4-9, 2021[12].
Orders were shipped out by September 10, 2022[13]. There was not enough stock left afterwards for any leftover sales[14].
