Destination is a Gibbs/DiNozzo epistolary fic by thehoyden written during season 6. For a time it held first place as the NCIS fic with the most kudos on AO3, until it was "de-throned" by Emergence and later other crossovers. As of 2022, it is still the fandom's most-kudosed non-crossover fic with more than three thousand kudos.

There is a Russian translation of the fic Назначение by fandom_Police_2015.

Summary:

It's like a bad joke: Gibbs and Fornell walk into an elevator. When they walk out, Gibbs says, "Pack your bags, DiNozzo -- you're going on a trip."

Reviews

This was really good. I loved the emails between Gibbs and Tony. Loved the late night phone call too. The slow build up was the best and made me want to take a look at all my Gibbs/Tony wips. I'm all about Hawaii 5 0 right now but I still love me a great NCIS story.[1]

*love love love love!!*

I twigged pretty early on that it was for Tony's protection and GOD I adore it when Gibbs goes protective!! *gaugh* Shorts my brain out. This is a fic I'll save to go back and re-read again and again.

So glad your muse hasn't taken a permanent Hawaiian (5-0) vacation yet. :-D[2]

Delightful and delicious and at least as much fun as the show on its best, only with bonus e-mails and grown men being in love. Loved, adored and squealed at the character interactions here (uh, take that word as you wish) - between Fornell and Tony, Fornell and Gibbs, Abby and Tony (however briefly) and, of course, the cherry on top of the cream on top of the cake, Gibbs and Tony.[3]

This was so very nice to find; well written, sweet and hot in all the right ways. It's been ages since I've read NCIS fic and longer since I found one I really enjoyed, so this was a real treat.[4]

This was great.

I have to admit I was suspicious about the mission Fornell borrowed Tony for, seeing as it never really seemed to start, but I couldn't quite figure out what was going on.

The emails and Tony's picture message made me grin, as did Tony needling Fornell.

I felt bad for Tony when he found out what was happening and realised why Gibbs had asked about his last date, but I can't complain about what Gibbs did with the knowledge :). Hot and sweet.[5]
