Dedications in fandom are statements of appreciation made by fans on fanworks.
These dedications can be to other fans, or statements of thanks to the creators of canon. They can also be used to honor fans or creators who have passed on.
Canon Dedications
Thank you to various showrunners, actors, and other creators of the things fans love.
Fanwork Dedications
A common practice is to thank other fans for their work and support for a finished fanwork.
These statements may be for the fanwork's betas, for research help, or for support.
Some fans feel that betas do a valuable job and deserve public recognition.
Other fans feel that long, gushy dedications are tacky and boring.
Some fans feel that by mentioning a fan's friends, you are closing a circle and making your fic, which is posted in a public space, too exclusionary.
