Dalziel and Pascoe is the common cover name for a mystery series set in Yorkshire featuring Detective Superintendent Andrew "Andy" Dalziel (pronounced "DEE-yell") and Detective Sergeant Peter Pascoe. Much of the interest lies in the character contrast: Dalziel is crude and rude, but has his finger on the pulse of Yorkshire life; Pascoe is polite and politically correct, but more naive than he realizes.
The characters debuted in a series of novels by Reginald Hill, which has been adapted twice for television. Only one book was filmed in 1993; but a more successful series was produced from 1996 to 2007, featuring Warren Clarke as Dalziel and Colin Buchanan as Pascoe.
