A costume-maker is someone who makes costume. Costume-makers are sometimes involved in wearing and displaying costume themselves, but some prefer to create costumes for others to wear. Some costume-makers are designers, while others copy existing designs from TV, movies and other visual sources. Historical costume-makers copy historical models, often with a high degree of accuracy and dedication to researching and re-creating historic techniques and methods.

Costume-making calls on a wide range of different skills, from textile arts and crafts, wigmaking and leather work to "hard tech" such as welding, armour-making or plastic forming and moulding.
