Convergence is a gen Star Wars 93-page fiction anthology. Despite the "1" on the cover, it is the only issue.

The art is by Mary E. Overstreet and Lynn Garcia.

The editor's thanks:

Linda, whose idea of putting out our own fanzine, along with good constructive criticism and advice, and ideas (and money!) made this possible; Lynn, who got me started writing and who introduced me to organized fandom; Julie, who is my sister and who gave me some clever ideas and who didn't complain too much about never seeing me since I was always locked away in my room, typing; B. Dalton for my first job programming binary load lifters — oops, for paying my salary; Jeanine, Marcy, Kathy, and Jan for zine advice and encouragement; and my parents for putting up with my fannish obsessions.

From the editorial:

Welcome to the first issue of CONVERGENCE. C, it's taken a while, but like most zines: "We've had some problems ..." This is my first zine, and it has been quite an experience!

There are a couple of new SW universes begun here. Lynn's FIREBIRD CHRONICLES and my DIFFERENT PATH series are sort of a sister series in that we use each other's characters with each other's approval.

"Detour", for instance takes place after Jin has joined the Rebellion, several years after the end of "Pay the Piper". Confused? Anyway, these stories were written way back when ('78—'79.) "Detour" has undergone so many revisions and rewrites I wonder how I'm ever going to catch my other stories up to it. But right now the sequel to it is undergoing revision for the next issue.

[snipped]

You may notice in "Love and Learn" the similarity of "Calandro" to "Gallandro" and "Rykian" to "Rieekan". Well, Julie has never read Brian Daley's Han Solo books, and she wrote the story long before EMPIRE.

I hope you enjoy this zine. It's smaller than we'd planned — a few things fell through. In fact, the original idea was for a multimedia zine, but the only stuff we had was SW, so we stuck with it. I welcome submissions of SW/EMPIRE stories and art for the next issue. Letters of comment are most welcome too. Let us know what you think!

Happy reading!

There was another story that spanned the gap between the two, but it has since been scrapped and won't appear except reworked as a short short in a future issue of CONVERGENCE. Briefly: Atheila's guardian had gone to Alderaan for a visit, leaving her alone on the Fenevall estate. Along comes the Death Star^ and no more Alderaan or guardian. Unable to contact anyone and highly suspicious of the group Leia sent to pick her up (Jin, Han, and Chewie), she did not leave willingly. Jin sensed that she was a potential Force-sensitive, and in trying to cheer her up since they had hit it off well, she got her into Jedi training, even having a sabre made for her. This didn't help entirely, so Leia let Han bring Creela to the base. Used to having her own way, Atheila was still unsatisfied.") (26)
