Contrary Effects is a Jim/Blair story by Bluebrocade.

Reactions and Reviews

It has Simon contemplating pamphlets, Jim chewing the inside of his jaw and Blair pretty damn clueless.

As the author says, “Simon’s listening to rumors. Jim doesn’t think it’s funny. Blair’s just trying to figure out what’s going on.” [1]

Summary: Blair is sure something is wrong with Simon and he wants Jim to use his senses to try to figure it out. Jim rules out any medical problems, but Simon continues to act weirdly, especially around Jim and Blair.

When Simon finally comes clean, it opens up a can of worms that's equal parts humor, consternation and revelation.

Reccer's Notes: I like how Bluebrocade uses the characters, and the dialogue is terrific. She wrote this originally for TS Secret Santa, which are the links I've provided. (She does have this at her LJ, but I can't get part two to open.) She has another pining story that's a bit angstier there if that's your pleasure. After the heavier stories I've slung at you this month, I thought I'd go with something angst-lite. Enjoy. [2]

Bottom line: Simon's reaction. I've read a lot of stories that show Simon's views of gay relationships general and specific (specifically Jim and Blair). They range from "ho-hum what else is new" to raging homophobia. This one is pretty unique. You get to see inside Simon's head as he processes it and his basic bedrock of friendship coming to the fore. There's also some angst along the way, but all's well as it ends very well.[3]
