While on shore leave, Kirk visits a shop and buys an adventure game which claims to be able to allow the participant to experience their deepest fantasy. Back on the ship, Kirk tries it out and is very surprised by what happens, and he finds himself alone in a boat with Spock, then after they end up on a beach, he meets a very strange creature who is just a little too perceptive for comfort. The encounter is very well written and the creature Kirk meets does have the effect of forcing Kirk to deal with how he really feels for his first officer. I must admit that I liked this one - it was a very original way of allowing Kirk to acknowledge how he feels for Spock and the descriptions of the world where the adventure takes place adds to the enjoyment. Kirk's surprise when he first tries out the game is very well described as is the encounter with Spock and the strange alien creature they encounter in the "game" and what happens after that makes a very interesting tale which I thoroughly enjoyed.
