COMICUP魔都同人祭 is a large-scale comprehensive fannish convention organized by the ComiCup Organizing Committee (affiliated with Shanghai Motto Culture Communication Co.Ltd). Its focus includes ACGN, live-action movies and television, idols, musicals, stage plays, puppet shows, sports, website upstarts, etc. Generally referred to as CP, it has been held 45 times since 2007, and is currently the largest offline fannish convention in mainland China.
History
The 2024 event, unlike in previous years, was held in Hangzhou, Zheijiang province, on October 3rd and October 7th.[1] Some fans and con goers felt that the quality dropped during the 2024 edition.
Censorship
The 2024 Hangzhou event suffered censorship. During the convention itself, many artists were asked by the organizers to cover up artwork that depicted affection (such as two men hugging or touching). Words such as flirting, death and stabbing were also covered up by the organizers. This sort of behaviour by organizers wasn't present in previous iterations of the con.
