Reactions and Reviews
“Comfort,” an alternative universe Blake’s 7 story by “Paula” (1990), depicts the first few moments of a potential love affair between Blake and Soolin as the two comfort each other over the death of Dayna, their mutual friend. “Paula” portrays Soolin’s reluctance to make herself vulnerable to any man, her inability to conceive of sexuality as anything other than a weapon, while Blake’s love is described as accepting and nurturing: “Blake was an open, giving man whose caring spread to everyone around him” (48). Blake offers Soolin sex on her own terms, allows her to play the dominant role in their love-making, while helping her to become more open to her feelings; this Blake-Soolin relationship essentially reverses the traditional vocabulary of heterosexual pornography with its focus on female nurturing and male independence. “Comfort” ends without a commitment which might decrease Soolin’s autonomy; the characters simply acknowledge future possibilities for mutual satisfaction <...> [1]
Tragically this was listed on Fanlore as Blake/Blake, but is in fact Blake/Soolin (which is weird enough that I don't mind it in principle, but doesn't work out very well in this fic). If you haven't read Jabberwocky you will have no idea what is going on it in this fic. If you have read Jabberwocky you will not understand why this scene is never mentioned in the rest of the fic.[2]
