Vidders Notes: A Veronica character study/overview. This is something completely different for me. This was an experiment with color. The idea is that ever since Lilly died, the color has gone out of Veronica's world. Sometimes she feels all alone, other times she feels like she's the only one that doesn't fit in. Certain people and things make her feel alive again, but it never seems to last.
Reactions/Reviews
In a world where bad things and good things happen consistently to Veronica Mars, can she truly maintain an equilibrium and some semblance of happiness? This vid seeks to learn the answer.[1]
Hi, this vid is gorgeous and I love it to pieces. The effects, I felt, added a lot of meaning to the vid. Brilliant character study on Veronica, I loved it. The song matched so well and told the story you were trying to tell, I think. A mix of hope and loss.[2]
I enjoyed the story you mentioned in the notes, and that was very well visualized and edited in the vid. The fast cutting to random bits at first seemed too fast in the beginning, but then I came to think of them as very fast, very random flashbacks -- when one is in a tragedy, or has experienced a great loss, they'll remember the most weirdest of things - ie, quick cut to that cop. Of course, I've not seen the fandom save for this vid, so perhaps that cop has some significance. Ah, but the effects! Those were absolutely, without-a-doubt very breathtaking. They were done so professionally; no frame tails or errant mishaps. But you didn't just due the color-on-grey or grey-on-color, you also faded between the two to extraordinary effect. Very awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping, mein freund; tis clear a lot of time an effort went into this vid, and it certainly shows![3]
I liked the vid, and thought it was very interesting and did new things with the form. I was less impressed with what it did with the fandom - I felt like the vid could be bound together into a unified concept a bit more. On the other hand, for an experimental vid that's dealing with untested techniques, that may be a lot to ask. And as I said, I really did like it, and I hope you'll try more with this technique, because I think there's some really knock-out stuff to be done with it - some of which is alluded to in the vid. (I loved almost every shot where Veronica faded to black and white, for instance... but other times wondered why the color technique wasn't used. I was surprised to see her not change color when Logan kissed her, for instance - either to color or to black and white, as both would have been really, really interesting statements).[4]
Dazzling, wrenching portrayal of Veronica, her life, and her relationships, with stunning use of effects.[5]
"Colourblind" has beautiful music, it’s a sad and emotional video, and it’s deep and touching. Plus the vidder has very appropriately enhanced the theme by using some good colour effects.[6]
