Codextober is a collection of prompts for the Assassin's Creed fandom to create fanworks during the month of October. Created in September of 2021 by Ru Solis[1], Codextober is based on the annual drawing challenge Inktober, created by Jake Parker.
The first Codextober took place in October 2021 and has become an annual event. Alongside the October challenge, Codextober hosts a monthly challenge consisting of one prompt entitled Codexmonthly.
Structure
The prompt list consists of thirty-one prompts, each relating to the world of the Assassin's Creed games. Participants are encouraged to create works relating to the prompts as well as support other participants.
Participants can submit a variety of works including, but not limited to:
- Art
- Cosplay
- Virtual Photography
- Edits
- Writing
- Real life photos
- Theories
- Factual Content
Participants submit their works across social platforms by using the hashtag #codextober and by tagging the Codextober social media accounts.
History
Ru Solis created the event in 2021, inspired by similar events hosted by fellow AC creators. Notably, #ACinktober2019[2] created by Adrienn Czene in 2019 and Creedtober[3] by SophiaEA16 in 2020.
Originally created as a way for Solis to keep themselves entertained during quarantine lockdowns, the event has developed into a way to highlight the dozens of creative individuals in the Assassin's Creed community. Speaking on the Let's Talk Assassin's Creed podcast in February of 2022, Solis spoke about their intention of highlighting the creative forces behind the series as well as those in the community. [4]
Since the creation of the event, Codextober has grown to support artists, writers, cosplayers, virtual photographers, and fellow community pages.
In March of 2022, a dedicated Codextober Twitter account was created and is run by Solis themselves. In December of the same year, the Codextober Instagram was created and is also run by Solis.
On the 4th of April 2023, the Codextober Discord server "Codex Creative" was opened to the public. The discord serves as a hub for events, discussion of the games, and sharing of fanworks.
