The term clip is used by fans in a number of ways.
- Vidders select and assemble "clips" to make fanvids.
- Podficcers are plagued by the audio distortion known as "clipping," caused by speaking too loudly into the mic.
- Before the Internet, fans would "clip," or cut out/photocopy relevant articles and photos from newspapers to send to letterzines and newsletters.
- Some fans also collected and traded "clips" or "film clips." The zine The Clipper Trade Ship was a publication that catered to this interest. See Film Clip Fandom.
