A circuit story was a printed fanfiction that was circulated from fan to fan, rather than as part of a zine. The term was coined by The Professionals fandom, but "the network," "the usual sources," and "making copies for people" was in use in other fandoms internationally. Stories that were part of a formal circuit had blanket permission from their writers for copying and sharing, much like archiving permissions for online fanfiction, but required extensive record-keeping to avoid sharing something without permission.
