Some Excerpts
Like many of us, I used to write stories when I was younger. After college I fell madly in love with "Robin of Sherwood," which inspired a bout of fanfic in my early 20s. Then I went to grad school about 10 years ago and stopped all creative writing (unless resumes and memos count). Finding the XF fandom was a godsend.
Continuity, continuity, continuity. Next question? <g> Oh, and a little more respect for the female reproductive system. I don't much like the fact that "let's screw around with Scully's ovaries" has become the subtext for the show. And I could have lived a long and happy life without seeing that woman give birth to snakes in Signs and Wonders. Ew.
My very first story was inspired by a conversation on atxa about Scully's characterization in Season 6. I wrote a brief piece set during the middle of 2F/1S, and posted it, all innocently, to atxc. It sank like a stone, thankfully. My next story, once I figured out that I needed an editor, and had done more reading, was the first of the climbing stories, "The Gym Rat." That got a few pieces of feedback, enough to keep me writing. I started very conservatively; I've been writing for a year now and I still haven't done the mandatory casefile, or a first-time MSR.
