Friends. The X-Files fanfic community has changed my life quite literally. The people I've met through it, Dianora, Karen Rasch, Nicole Perry, and Amy Vincent have all played an active part in shaping my world. They've helped my find a place to live, work, and taught me that you can't use the same water (at the same time) to boil hot dogs that you use to make macaroni and cheese.
Advice? Don't go overboard plugging yourself, or errect sites and/or mailing lists to your own glory. It just pisses everyone off. DO respond to the feedback you're given, DO send out praise when it's deserved, and realize that you're part of a unique community that is every bit as real as the one live in when the computer is off. Love it. Respect it.
