Some Excerpts

I've written fiction for as long as I can remember. We used to get these assignments in grammar school to write short stories, and I always loved doing them. I came across one recently while cleaning out my closet and almost died laughing. It was a story about two girls getting stranded on a desert island, and instead of trying to get off the island, they decided to build a hotel/resort on the island instead. The story neglected to mention just how they managed to accomplish such a feat all by themselves. <g> I also used to write puppet shows in 4th and 5th grade, and my friends and I would perform them for the first graders. I swear, I am not making this up. How could I? Then in junior high a friend and I tried our hands at writing a novel. We'd each write a chapter and then mail it to the other person. It was about the trials and tribulations of young studs and studettes at a modeling agency -- in other words, "The Bold and the Beautiful" ripped us off. I continued to write, mostly for myself, in high school, and then I minored in Creative Writing in college.

The characters, definitely. Mulder and Scully are the only reason I watch the show at this point, although that wasn't the case initially. Then again, it wasn't so much the show that moved me to write fanfic as it was the existence of fanfic itself. I'd written fanfic for myself before, for "Star Wars" and "Robotech," but didn't realize such a thing even existed -- I thought I was the only freak. BOY was I wrong! <G> Finding the XF fanfic world was nothing short of a revelation for me.

Just ONE thing [I'd change about the show]? Hoo boy. My dissatisfaction with Chris Carter is legendary among those who know me. Umm, this may be predictable, but it would be for Mulder and Scully to at the very least address the issue of a physical relationship. I find the lack of progress there incredibly frustrating in terms of characterization. And I am one of those Shippers who does want them to become romantically involved on the show, now. If I had my way they would start up a physical relationship but be forced to hide it from their superiors, thus providing us with even MORE tension, angst, and longing glances, but also peppered with the occasional furtive clinch. That is my dream.

I think it came from reading fanfic for the first time and thinking, "Hey, I can do this!" I wanted to join the party, and I was eager to try my skills at writing smut. <g> "Wine" was my first story, and ironically I never planned on continuing that particular universe. But I got so many requests to continue it, that I caved. I was honestly shocked to get as many letters as I did. Hell, it still shocks me.
