Catharsis is a Bodie/Doyle story by Sebastian.
It is a story on The 1985 Hatstand Express Top Ten Lists.
This story has an unauthorized sequel called Alternate Ending to Catharsis.
Controversy
The CI5 mailing list became the subject of controversy due to a responsefic that had been written to Sebastian's partner betrayal story "Catharsis." The Catharsis responsefic was written and posted to the CI5 mailing list in months following the creation of the list by one of the list admins, Anne Higgins. In September 1996, the responsefic resulted in heated discussion on Virgule-L which then spilled back onto the CI5 list. Shortly thereafter, the list admins banned discussion of the ethics of responsefic.
Reactions and Reviews
1985
This one's on [my list] mainly for the ending, which is beautifully written and very sad. I like the whole thing, but the ending is the best part.[1]
1990
It was interesting, but the bobbling viewpoints (constantly switching from Bodie to Doyle) distracted me. Also, I got a distinct "flash" of reading a Blake/Avon story rather than a Bodie/Doyle story. [2]
1994
There *are* stories out there that make me believe Bodie is broken, stories like Sebastian's "Catharsis" [sequel to "Adagio"]. [snipped] Okay, I'm a Bodie person so I savor the 'Bodie-breaks' scenes, but Doyle suffers beautifully (physically and mentally) in "Catharsis," too. [3]
