I want to rename a lot of these pages to be "FirstName LastName/FirstName LastName" for consistency. Any thoughts or objections? —caes (talk) 21:22, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- I object. I know the idea of moving relationship pages to full names has been proposed from time to time, but it's always been Fanlore's policy that page names reflect what fans actually call things. (See e.g. this discussion.) As someone who's been in HP fandom for 15+ years, "FirstName LastName/FirstName LastName" sounds really unnatural to me. The majority of HP fans didn't/don't use this phrasing, and IMO it's only more common now because of AO3's tagging system, and renaming fandom pages to match seems like artificially prescribing naming conventions that fan communities haven't organically developed. --sparc 21:45, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- I understand. In that case, should we change the pages that do follow "FirstName LastName/FirstName LastName" or different conventions to what's commonly used? E.g. "Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald" and "Percival Graves/Newt Scamander" or "Lily/Remus/Severus" (I'm pretty sure that calling it "Lily/Remus/Snape" is more common, since "Lily/Snape" is the convention). —caes (talk) 22:40, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- I would prefer to see Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald moved but hadn't suggested it because this tends to be, uh, a hot-button issue ^^' I'm not very involved in the Fantastic Beasts side of things so I can't really speak for Percival Graves/Newt Scamander. As for Lily/Remus/Severus, I went through a bunch of communities and "Severus" really does seem to be the preferred name there. Maybe it's a MWPP threesome thing; Sirius/Remus/Severus also comes to mind. See also Snape/Black versus Sirius/Remus. So while I'm also generally a fan of consistency, sometimes fandom is inconsistent! I really think it all needs to be handled on a case-by-case basis. --sparc 16:30, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
