Carter's Solution is a short story by fanged_geranium based on Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer. Chronologically, it is the third story (though the first posted) in a series of four stories that flesh out events surrounding the expulsion of Lanyon in Chapter Two.
Synopsis
Laurie's friend Carter, desperate to stop him from following up his crazy plan to have the whole school confess to "immorality", finally begs help from the cleverest student he can think of.
Background
Somers, the student to whom Carter goes for help, is mentioned in canon, but only in passing. The characterization in the story is therefore fanged_geranium's creation holus bolus.
"Carter's Solution" was written as part of the Unwritten Charioteer Writing Project (Chapter Two). It is preceded in sequence by "Ancient History" and "Confessing", and followed by "A Conspiracy".
