Captives was...captivating. Another thoroughly enjoyable read. Trying to pinpoint exactly why, has had me scratching my head for a while here. Rather than one particular element, it was definitely a combination of everything: (a) Plot - there were no twists and turns, but it was interesting enough to keep ame reading; (b) Characterization - It stated very clearly at the beginning that Spock is quite young, and, it therefore follows, that Kirk is too. Their personalities as drawn by the author are very familiar and yet reflect their youth, mostly in the innocence of the advancement of the sexual relationship and in Kirk's bubbling enthusiasm. The only time I felt the characterization slipped a little was at the end when Spock fell to his knees to Sarek; (c) Detail - It may well be the attention to detail that really makes the story for me: little things like the debusing procedure.
