A capslock community is a community in which everything posted must be typed in uppercase (that is, with the caps lock key on). Some communities have a penalty for making a post or comment that includes lowercase letters, while others do not. The premise is a humorous take on the internet convention that typing in all caps is rude and the equivalent to shouting. Capslock communities tend to be very lulzy and take themselves less seriously than normal communities.
The idea of capslock communities originated from the non-fandom Capslock Friday LiveJournal community, and numerous fandom-specific spin-offs have been created.
Capslock coms, with their heavy usage of insider-terminology, are often poorly understood or mistrusted by outsiders.
