Cable Town was a term used in the Kingdom Hearts fandom between 2014 and 2018 to refer to a rumored new location that would allegedly be featured in Kingdom Hearts III.

Origins

In December 2014, Square Enix hosted a fan event in Burbank, California to celebrate the launch of the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix compilation. At the end of the event, attendees were asked to stay in their seats, and were treated to an exclusive sneak peek at Kingdom Hearts III. Fans who were at the event reported that this preview prominently featured concept art and early 3D models for a new location that have never been seen before, all of which where marked with the notation “CT.”[1]

Attendees later described the new environment as including three tiered cities on hills filled with windmills. Each city was described as having a large central structure at the top, with cables connecting all three hills together.

From these descriptions, fans guessed that CT was short for Cable Town.

History

In the years leading up to the release of Kingdom Hearts III, the existence of Cable Town was a frequent subject of speculation among fans of the series.

Numerous pieces of fanart were made that attempted to capture what the world looked like based on the descriptions of the concept art, while countless videos were made that speculated about the location’s role in the story and potential connections to the franchise’s established lore.

Unlike other trailers unveiled at an official event, the preview shown in 2014 was never made publicly available, and the new world that attendees of the event described was consistently absent from all subsequent trailers for Kingdom Hearts III.

This caused many fans to express doubt about Cable Town’s presence in the game. Some speculated that it was an early idea that had been scrapped from the final release. Meanwhile, others argued based on the descriptions comparing the concept art to existing worlds such as Daybreak Town or the Land of Departure that the art was likely either a new design or a never-before-seen area for one of those established locations.

In December 2018, Square Enix released one last trailer for Kingdom Hearts III ahead of its January 2019 release. The final trailer ended with a brief scene introducing a new location named Scala Ad Caelum that matched the descriptions of Cable Town from the 2014 event.
