Close Doubles is a het, gen and slash 125-page Professionals anthology.

The art is by Caren Parnes (cover), Karen River, and Sheila Willis.

The second part to "Silence" by Sheila Willis which was in Foxhole in a Graveyard was supposed to have been in this zine, but is not. It was also not published as planned, in the proposed zine "Mixed Quarters." There are three full-page flyers for the proposed zine "Mixed Quarters" in this zine.

  • CI5 and the Blustery Day by Sheryl Adsit (4)
  • Ten for Trial, Five for Bliss, Part 1 by Sheila Willis (10)
  • Always By My Side, poem by Laura Peck (slash) (30)
  • 'Till Death by Sheila Willis ("'Till Death" is the conclusion to her unfinished story "'Till Death" in the zine Foxhole in a Graveyard.) (33)
  • The Favor, Part 1 by Sheila Willis (92)
  • Close Doubles by Jennette Newhouse (107)
  • Artwork Caren Parnes Karen River and Sheila Willis

Some Flyers for "Mixed Quarters," a Zine Heavily Promoted in the Zine

This zine, heavily promoted in "Close Doubles," was heavily promoted but never published. This was Sheila Willis's never finished the stories' continuation. It was the last zine she put out before she more or less dropped out of fandom.

Reactions and Reviews

[Till Death]: As a public service to all "/" fans, I present here a list of the TEN WORST MARY SUE STORIES IN PRO'S FANDOM, AND HOW YOU CAN AVOID THEM. I'm not listing the author's names, though... in most case they've all ready done that themselves, and I can't see compounding the guilt. So, without further ado: [...] This story could've been good, if it wasn't so abominably written, for starters ... and if the woman, again, wasn't so unbelievably perfect. She was a dancer (l think). By the end of the story, she evolves from fearless vampire slayer, to CI5 agent-in-training. Uh-huh... [...] [1]

[zine]: Picked up a few zines here and there... got 'Close Doubles', published by Sheila Willis. I hadn't talked to her since worldcon in Brighton, so was glad to catch up. She's working on mainstream stuff for pro publication, and only intends a couple more zines. Close Doubles had a beautiful Caren Parnes cover, but I was disappointed in its contents, not the least of which was that Sheila inflicted a 'to be condnued' on "us. ARGH! [2]
