About
What's the point of the BtVS Fan Fiction Club?
. . . to celebrate fan fiction writing
Specifically the club is:
- A place to share our favorite fan fiction with others
- A place to learn about new fan fiction
- A place to learn what attracts other people to their ships or lack of
- A place to share what attracts people to their favorite ships
- A way to send your opinions about fictions to the authors
General Information:
- We divide into groups representing our favorite ship or non-ship
- Each group decides on one story to represent their group
- Each week all members read a fiction selected by one of the groups, then review it the next week
If you want to participate send and email to [email protected] and you can be included in the next session of fiction reading and reviews.
Groups will be determined by the interest of participants in each ship.
- Each group must have at least 3 members
- You can belong to 2 groups if you want to represent 2 'ships
- In the past we have had a Non-Ship for those who don't ship and we had an other-ship group for participant who want a ship that doesn't have enough members. [1]

Sample Letters to Reviewed Authors
In July 2002, the moderators sent a proposed draft of a letter to its members. The topic: 1) informing fanfic authors that their fic was being discussed and reviewed, 2) explanation of the club and criteria, 3) an invitation to join in or, at least, be present on the forum for the discussion.
There appears to have been little, if any, fan comments about their desire to have authors present during the critique, something that would have implications about what fans may or may not decide to say, as well as who is concrit and/or Feedback for? The writer of the fic in question or the fans?
The Invite Proposal for Authors
Oz, JuniorK and I were chatting, and we thought it would be a good idea to inform the author that we are reviewing their fic and invite them to come to the board and comment. This is what I've come up with so far. Let me know what you think.
Hello. We have formed a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fan Fiction club and I am writing to inform you that your story, "___________________________" was highly recommended to our group and we are in the process of discussing and reviewing it on our message board located at http://www.voy.com/98361/. Please check our message board if you are interested in our comments. We would very much welcome your input.
If you're curious, the goals of our club are as follows:
1. I submit that we will have the following categories. B/S, B/X, B/A, B/G, W/X, Other (meaning a group of non-shippers who recommend their favorite fics), and slash. Out of the seven categories each member must read six fics. You can choose the one you wish to skip
2. Once we have everyone signed in we will pair off into ships and using chats and emails, each ship will agree upon the recommendation of one fic for everyone in the club to read. Meaning each ship will agree on their fic for that month. I would hope to get at least 4 people from each ship and four slash writers/readers.
3. This is a once a month thing so that we all have time to finish reading our fics.
4. All fics must be no longer than 200 pages and can be any rating, any genre. If NC-17 fics are not your cup of tea a secondary recommendation from that category can be red. All secondary recommendations can carry a rating no higher than R.
Each ship within the Fanfic club must agree on what fic they would like the other ships to read that deals with their ship. Talk it over in chats. email or however you'd like. But agree upon something good. Agree upon a story you would like people who are not fans of your ship to read. Choose an author you feel truly has the talent to win over even the most critical of reviewers.
5.. This is the most important rule. Each month every member of the club must read and review the agreed upon B/X, B/S, B/A, B/G, W/X and Slash fics. This clubs intent is to celebrate the writing, and give each of us a glimpse at how the other side sees things. I'm willing to read any B/S story that the B/S'rs in the club feel should be read. And I'm willing to do this every month the club is around. [2]
Final Letter for Authors
Hello ________ We, the members of the BtVS Fan Fiction Club, would like to thank you for writing the story "_____". Our group enjoyed reading and reviewing it... We are happy to inform you that we have chosen your story to receive a Highest Recommendation.
Due to all the viruses being sent in attachments, we have decided not to send the awards via email. Your award can be found: http://katlurkin.expio.net/fanfic/session1.html
This is our first session reading and reviewing various fan fictions. We awarded the recommendation to the two highest rated stories.
If you are curious about our club, we have a web page. http://katlurkin.expio.net/index.html Our message board is located at http://www.voy.com/98361/.
