Robert Asprin (28 June 1946 - 22 May 2008) was a fan turned pro. As a fan, he was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and Dorsai Irregulars. His fanworks include The Capture.
Asprin's first professional novel - an expansion of a short story: The Cold Cash War - was published by Dell in 1977.[1]
This was the first of 54 books that he wrote over the next three decades.[2] This included the "MythAdventures" series, and the "Phule" series, for which he may be most remembered.[3].
In fandom circles, he might best be remembered for Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe, a 1979 book that he co-authored with George Takei.
Asprin died of heart failure at his home in New Orleans. He was reportedly found lying on a sofa with a Terry Pratchett novel still open in his hands. He was to have been the Guest of Honor at Marcon that weekend.[3]
