Blueprint is a Fraser/Kowalski story by Journey.
Reactions and Reviews
Post-CotW fic and first time as well *g* my favorite combination. It caters specifically to my love for slow development instead of 'sex on page 2'. That, and I'm such a sap. There were a few things that I found less interesting in the story, but overall, absolutely a long and lovely read.
After The Adventure, Ray goes back to Chicago and Fraser settles into a small Christmas-obsessed town in northern Canada. When Fraser decides to really settle in and build a house, Ray comes back to help and promptly decides that he's ready to do a bit of dating. He just won't tell Fraser *who* the lucky gal is. Blueprint is one of those stories that really grows on you as you read it. I'm not thrilled with the beginning, which features a very passive-aggressive Ray and a few grammatical errors, but once Ray backs off and starts focusing on date preparations, the story gets sweet and endearing, leading up to the most awesome date in the history of ever. You also have a loveably uncertain Fraser and a cast of entertaining extras, including some fabulous notecards (you'll see what I'm talking about). A long, entertaining story about learning to need others and not letting what you love slip away without a fight. [2]
A little sweeter than my usual tastes, but I heartily enjoyed this one just the same. All about the careful ways two people who've been burned make room for each other in their lives, literally and figuratively. As a bonus? Hot sex. *g*
I also let out a multi-syllabic 'awwww...' when I was done. [3]
A slow, believable build-up of intimacy and development of how Fraser and Kowalski can fit their lives and how they want to fit their lives together after Call of the Wild and their adventures have ended and they have returned to their normal, separate lives. This story pretty much hits perfectly on all of my quirks. It is funny and sappy, is clearly building a story, deals with issues in a realistic manner, doesn't just rush from sex scene to sex scene, but still delivers some hot, smutty sex by the end. Fraser and Kowalski clicked as partners from early on and they managed to overcome every hurdle to remaining partners, but being partners or even Kowalski implying he feels more like himself around Fraser does not mean they are ready for intimacy, of the everyday living variety or the emotional variety, and this in particular goes for Fraser. I love how this story takes the slow, measured road to get them from what they want theoretically to how to live it daily. [4]
The one where Ray helps Fraser build a house and Fraser lives in a town with reindeer street names. Sweet and slow.[5]
slow build of the relationship as Ray goes up to Canada to help Fraser build his cabin and adapt to small town life. The scene with the cards gets me every time.[6]
I just recently read this monster again and it's STILL awesome. I like to call this one "the dating fic" because of the fucking A+ perfect date Ray takes Fraser on. Plus there's domesticity like woah, and this is the only fic I actually like Ray calling Fraser "Ben", mostly because it doesn't happen until you're well into the story and so it's a natural progress. I kind of love Fraser in this one, how socially awkward he is and it's so romantic how Ray takes care of him in his own way.[7]
