Summaries

"The power is out and Bodie comes over to drag Doyle off for a game of squash to get the blood moving, but Doyle is toasty warm in bed and sleepily invites Bodie to join him. Who needs power to generate heat?"[1]

"Electricity cut all over London, B goes to D's as his flat has gas heating, and to get him to play squash. D is too sleepy to get up, and drags B under the covers with him. B, long time in love with D, accepts. Later on, D wakes up again and initiates love making. As the gas heating doesn't work as well, they stay in bed happily and sweetly.[2]

Excerpts

"He stalked quietly back to the bed, studied the shape of the heaped-up quilt and stealthily lifted a corner, peering underneath. Sure enough, there was mass of tumbled curls deep down in the bed and nothing to be seen as Doyle lay curled in on himself like a sleeping dormouse protecting itself against the rigours of winter."

Reactions and Reviews

This is a terrific story to read when the temperature gets down to about 20 below 0!!! guaranteed to warm anyone up. Erotic as hell. I love it.[3]

Oh, god, to be all toasty and under the covers with either one of them and to hell with the outside world! [4]

throat-stopping up schmoopy angsty first time sex. these things are like bits of chocolate--can't stop eating them even if you'll make yourself sick. [5]

The sensory images are so well done here, I almost feel as though I can feel the chill in the room, as well as the warmth under the blankets. Interestingly enough though, by the time Bodie is striking matches in the basement, she has almost totally dropped any sensory images at all ... coming in to the story here, you might not even realize how they are dressed, or in this case, undressed ... or how cold it is, other than what is related in the dialogue. Maybe this shows that once you've established your scene, the reader doesn't need any more to embelish the story. But somehow, I think not ... I loved the story, but I think it would have been better if she didn't drop the description once the dialogue begins.

The other think I like about this is that it so beautifully illustrates the differences between the two characters, Bodie is so Bodie, and Doyle is so Doyle. Not interchangeable at all. That happens so frequently in Pro's stories. Change the names and descriptions, and you couldn't tell Bodie from Doyle ... or Murphy, for that matter.

Finally, I just love Doyle in this mood ... like a cat taking a nap, he can wake up all cuddly, but he might still claw if you're not careful. And Bodie is most awfully aware of that ... but seduced by the purr, he climbs in anyway. Been there ... done that. [6]
