Bi-fictional is a play on bisexual, signifying fans who read both kinds of fiction common in their fandom: het and slash, or gen and slash.

The earliest pairing war was between gen K&S and K/S fans—perhaps because the het pairings on Star Trek didn't have the same attractions to fans as the Kirk/Spock relationship. In many later fandoms, the battles were between the het fans and slash fans. Saying that you're bi-fictional means both that you read both kinds of fic, and that you are a conscientious objector in any wars between the two communities.

Shrift and Nestra share a website called Bifictional Bedlam. There's also a bifictional lj community.
