Reactions and Reviews

In the long chapter between Spock, Kirk, and McCoy, I was never clear on what the problem WAS. I still have no idea of what they said that relieved McCoy of whatever was bothering him. As for the long love scene, that's a lot of heavy breathing. But it's a good energetic love scene. I also liked the 'feeling of love' that was very much a part of this story.[1]

This final story in the zine is the longest and for me, one of the best. It takes place immediately after the events at the end of the Final Frontier, after the party we saw with the Klingons is over. Kirk and Spock go to visit McCoy to make sure he is OK after Sybok’s revelations on the observation deck that he actually killed his own father. The discussion which follows, is very well written with excellent characterisation and explores fully the depths of the friendship between all three of them, not just Kirk and Spock, who try very hard to ensure McCoy is included as well. Their main reason for the late night meeting, is that they need to tell McCoy something about how Sybok found out about what happened to McCoy and his father so long ago. Their concern for their friend is very well described.

The explanation that this information “leaked” across from McCoy to Spock and onto Kirk via a meld when he hosted his katra was certainly a new one on me in a very well written story with as a extra bonus, some very hot and erotic love scenes along the way as all three discuss what happened and try to come to terms with it. The final scenes when they are back on the camping trip at Yosemite round everything off very nicely too with a little well placed humour along the way, when McCoy threatens to bring an Andorian woman along on their camping trip as well, revenge on Kirk for scaring him to death on their previous visit there when he went mountain climbing and fell off El Capitan, something which McCoy is determined will not happen again!
