Some Excerpts
I've been a fan since the show first started. I don't really remember watching the pilot but I do remember "The Fix" and after that I was hooked. I HAD to be home on the nights it was on, which wasn't always easy. Over the years I'd watch for it in syndication but was never very successful. I fell back in love with it when TNT brought back the shows, only now I could tape them to watch to my hearts content.
I wrote my first story in 1997 but wasn't actually brave enough to post it until 98. The title was "Withdrawal". I'd been reading fanfic for a while and wanted to give it a try but didn't know what to write about. One day the scene of Starsky being in the bank when a robbery takes place popped into my head. I started thinking about what would have transpired, what Starsky would have done, and how he might have gotten out. Since Hutch was on the outside I had to devise a way for him to get information about Starsky; that's when the idea of a teller pretending to go into labor came to me. From there I wrote the story.
I think everyone has favorite writers, writers that you can't wait until their next stories come out. There are so many great writers out there it's hard to just name a few, but for me these include Brit, TibbieB, K. Korossy, the Blintz I also love to reread some of the stories that first drew me into the fandom and gave me the courage to try writing. A favorite is "Vengeance Is Mine". I love the depth these writers give to their characters, their storylines, the hurt/comfort that they keep realistic, how realistic Starsky, Hutch, and the other characters are. They can draw me into the story and keep me there.
I'm just involved in S&H. I've read a few Emergency stories online and if I had time I'd probably read more of them or try to find some Bonanza stories. Bonanza was the first TV series I ever fell in love with. My girlfriend and I watched the show together every week. I used to watch Star Trek (the original series is my favorite). My husband has always been a fan of it as well. We both occasionally read published Star Trek novels, which I consider a part of fandom. But I don't ever see myself writing fanfiction in another fandom.
I think it's important to write for fun and enjoyment. It's hard work but satisfying and you have to be willing to accept criticism/suggestions to grow as a writer. S&H fandom is an amazing place. It's given me the opportunity to write and to share that writing. I'd like to say thanks to the people who have read them and taken the time to share comments. I especially count myself so lucky to have made some new wonderful, life-long friends that I would never have made if the show, and the friendship Paul and David shared, both on and off the screen, had never existed.
