SUMMARY: Another's candid view of Mulder and Scully, or "An Essay on Why It Sucks To Be The /Other - by Cassidy Neill"

DISCLAIMER: Not mine. Duh.

AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is my first story in the X-Files fanfic genre, and I decided to try it from a first-person point of view. The inspiration for this story came from a discussion I had with a friend of mine about the viability of any relationship Mulder or Scully entered into with someone other than each other. Her contention was that Mulder was too damaged for *any* kind of meaningful relationship, and that Scully could, and should, do much better for herself. But I contend that their relationship is such that any *other* relationship would suffer for their closeness, i.e. the only thing they aren't getting from each other is sex. This is my attempt to write a story from the point of view of that *other* person - in this case, one involved with Mulder. Depending on the response, I might also tackle the same topic from the Scully/Other angle during the same time frame.

Reactions and Reviews

Banging Your Head Against The Red-Haired Brick Wall by Blair Provence - no, I don't just like this Mulder/other because I am a noromo! I love this because it's one of the few and rare "other" voices that is not a Mary Sue, and Mulder characterization couldn't possibly be more dead-on. [1]
Here's where I throw in my $.02 and where I date myself as a relative newbie. [The first fanfic I ever read] was officially "Banging Your Head Against a Red-Haired Brick Wall" by Blair Provence, and it's a good thing too, because I was prepared to dislike fanfic intensely. It was intelligent, funny, and captured what I wanted to see in the characters.[2]

Today’s fic features Mulder/Original Character, and we can safely say after reading this fic that, let’s face it, we all want to be the one who’s doing Fox Mulder. You’ll see what we mean after you read this fic. Also, we LOVE reading about the good ship MSR from other peoples’ perspectives.... Reblogging for the night owls! Don’t let the Mulder/Other throw you. It’s a damn good read. And it resolves into MSR in a very, very cool way. See you tomorrow for Post-Ep/Missing Scene Thursday! Xo, TXF Fic Chicks.[3]
