The Buffy Beta list, more commonly known as BBeta, started in 1997. It allowed any kind of fic related to the television show Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (BtVS). The original intention of the list was to give writers who didn't have betas a place to post their fanfic and get feedback to make changes before posting a polished fic on other lists or sites. In practice, many writers used it as their only place to post fic, and readers used it as a place to find new fic without necessarily offering feedback. The mailing list digest was also archived on the web. [1]
